There’s a kind of art that needs no effects or filters. Super 8 it’s not a vintage trend or a nostalgic wink. It’s a way of seeing things slowly, emotionally and with intention. A format that endures because it strikes memories that still live within us. An invitation to feel and re-experience our own recollections of the past like if we were at the cinema.
Super 8 and the comeback (though it never truly went away)
Super 8 is a motion picture format introduced by Kodak in the 60s and has always felt like pure magic to me. Since it is literal recorded on 8mm film, it carries a sense of nostalgia and visual poetry that modern technology simply can’t replicate with conventional digital videos. Its grain, warm tones and beautiful light create an atmosphere that feels raw, emotional, deeply human and unique. Popular in the past, this format is reclaiming the place it rightfully deserves, with the same timeless charm.

Why I Love to document on Super 8
As a photographer with a cinematic approach, Super 8 has become the perfect complement to my work. Over the past few years, I’ve been immersing myself in the world of film photography and every time I document with a Super 8 camera, it reminds me why I fell in love with this in the first place. It takes me back to my early days in photography school almost twenty years ago, when I first experimented with analog processes. Back then, it felt like holding a piece of history in my hands and somehow, it still does.

Super 8, a favorite for all
For the past years, it seemed like everything analog was going to disappear. With each new digital advance, film felt more and more distant, almost forgotten but I’m so grateful that many of us refused to let it go. Slowly, the love for the analog came back, not just among filmmakers and photographers, but also people who want their memories to feel timeless and more real in the most artistic way.

A chemical miracle
Being film, Super 8 has a certain imperfection that makes everything feel more authentic. It has a particular way to capture light and it transforms simple, everyday moments into something poetic and eternal. Unlike the post-production process for a typical digital video, the Super 8 film is sent to a special lab to be developed and then scanned. Its texture, tonality, and grain give the film a unique look and quality that can never be replicated digitally.

Created with intention
It is known that film footage is expensive. Not only because the cost of the film itself -considering that each cartridge can record up to 3 minutes, but the development, scanning and editing afterwards.
Unlike digital where you can record for hours and pick your favorite moments later, film doesn’t offer that option. That’s why the process of actual filming becomes much more intentional as each scene documented counts.

Choosing film means choosing intention. As a filmmaker, it forces me to pause, think through each shot and carefully decide what’s worth capturing with your priorities in mind. It’s also an artistic choice, because it allows us to create something together in a more conscious and meaningful way.

Do I need Super 8 for my wedding day?
Well, that’s really up to you but if you ask me, I definitely think so!

Having me as your photographer on your wedding day, you know that I will include film photography and that this is essential for me. If you want both photography and video, adding Super 8 allows me to create a seamless narrative that complements my photographic work in a whole different way, giving you a more emotional and cinematic result.
Super 8 isn’t just a cool film format; it’s a feeling. It’s for those who want their story to be told with honestly, warmth and a touch of nostalgia. And for me, it’s one of the most beautiful ways to preserve memories that will never fade.
